Very disappointing

Location: Age: 55-64 Occasion: Birthday
I took my friend to the Waldorf for afternoon tea for her birthday treat thinking it would be a memorable experience. It was certainly that. The service was poor and the food second rate. We firstly complained to our waitress about the food, scones that were so flat they looked like drop scones and not baked in the middle. Then we told her about the sandwiches which were dry and tasteless. As well as this two of the cakes weren't baked through. She said she would let her manager know and offered us another round of tea/coffee, when this came it was the wrong order and it took two attempts to get the correct order. We were so disappointed we decided to leave. When we got to the reception the same waitress asked if everything was ok. We asked her if she had relayed our complaint to her manager, which she confirmed she had, I asked what his response was and she just shrugged. By this time we were annoyed at the treatment we asked to see him. He reluctantly came out to speak to us and told us that no one else had complained!! We told him of our experience and we asked when the sandwiches were made and apparels they are made first thing in the morning as stored. Given our booking was for 2.45pm it is hardly surprising that they had began to go hard and curly. And as for him saying no other complaints had been made this is a shoddy way to deal with a customer. Eventually he told me he woul look into it and he had my email address and would be in contact with me. That was 3 days ago and I have not heard a word from him. I really do not expect this from a five star hotel, very, very disappointed, though given the attitude to our complaint I am not surprised. It felt as though because we were the last booking of the day, they were laying tables for dinner around us, they couldn't wait to get us out. Certainly not the experience I would expect from such a prestiges hotel as the Waldorf.

The service itself was very poor. Had to wait around 15minutes before anyone came over to us. Staff made eye contact with you but failed to come over. The experience itself was good and the selection of cakes and sandwiches were lovely. Service was the only thing that let it down.

We had recently been on the evening meal cruise, which was fantastic, so we thought it would nice to see the river by day. I looked at prices on the river bus but this deal was by far the cheapest. The boats are of great quality, clean and comfortable. This is food and drinks on board, we had meal deal at a good price. There are nice clean toilets on board. I would recommend this trip to anyone. A nice day out at your leisure.
