By definition, a Premier Cru Champagne is made exclusively from grapes grown in the higher quality Premier Cru rated vineyards. This Champagne has been made by Maison Burtin, one of the most prominent of the Champagne Houses in Epernay. The grapes used for this blend come from the villages of Avize and Oger (for Chardonnay) and Mailly and Rilly (for Pinot Noir). The blend is composed of 78% Pinot Noir and 22% Chardonnay, from grapes grown in 2009, an exceptionally sun-filled season. The wine was bottled in 2010 and spent over 36 months ageing in the Maison Burtin cellars. The provenance of the grapes (Premier and Grand Cru vineyards) significantly contribute to the special quality of this blend. Also, the winemaker did not carry out any malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine freshness and complexity. The ageing of the wine on its lees have softened and harmonised its flavours so that it has achieved its optimum condition.
